  • Apply for financial support

    • Who are they?
The foundation for NHH in Bergen is "the wealthy uncles and aunts of the school". The foundation aims to contribute to NHH and NHHS and particularly on the extracurricular side. There are two application rounds per year, one each semester, which typically is awarded between 50-100.000 NOK.

Apart from these awards, SfNHHiB owns the student lodge called "Kramboden" which NHHS may have access to. Many years ago, the foundation also took care of and ensured the restoration of "Stupet", NHH's representation facilities.

      Who can apply?
All students (and all of NHH) at NHH can apply for funding. It will be most applicable for Interest Groups, both cultural groups, sports clubs and other interest groups have previously received support from SfNHHiB.

      What is awarded?
Unlike HSF, SfNHHiB provides funding for equipment. They can also provide fundings for events, but that is very seldom. Equipment can range from support for renovation of a group room to tracksuits and musical instruments.

In priciple, the fundings are only awarded to those who will not get fundings elsehwere. This means that subcommities governed by NHHS are seldom awarded fundings.

SfNHHiB will try to even out fundings between different goups over time. Tangible causes is prioritized, rather than events like anniversaries.

What is required to be awarded?
To be awarded, there must be a purpose SfNHHiB finds worthy of support, see section above. Furthermore, it is very important to have a good application which have been thoroughly prepared, and includes budget/quotes etc.

Following the awarding one is rquired to deliver a report on what the fundings are beeing used for before payments are made. This report must include copies of receipts etc..

      Tips & tricks
      • Courtesy is very important, be humble and grateful
      • Creative applications have often been rewarded
      • Deliver the report early. It should also be very polite and one should remember to thank for the gift.
      • Submit your application in good time, feel free to contact for example. Head of Financial Affairs of the Executive Board to review whether the application is complete.
      • Do not apply for fundings for an event. Try to apply HSF instead.

      Application dealines and other deadlines
      • Application dealines 1. round: January 30
      • Application dealines 2. round: August 29

OBS! The deadlines are indicative and changes may occur from year to year, but this will then be announced on www.nhhs.no and by email to leaders of committees and interest groups. Applying before the deadline will expedite handling of the application.

    • Who are they?
Høyskolefondene consists of two funds which are managed by the Permanent Committee for Fund Allocations (PUFAs). PUFAs are composed of representatives from all departments, the rectorate and students (Head of Financial Affairs). Meetings are held three times a year, two during the spring semester and one during the fall semester. Applications processed on all these meetings.

Fundings are awareded in two cateogries: Emlpoyees travelling to different workshops/conferences/stays abroad and more, and fundings for events with many participants.

Usually, 2-300.000 NOK is awareded per year, devided on the three application rounds.

      Who can apply?
All staff and students at NHH can apply to Høyskolefondene, but there are strict guidelines for what is considered worthy of support. Essentially, it will therefore be most applicable to various cultural groups, but also individual interest groups.

      What is awarded?
From the funds' guidelines one can read:

      « 1.2. Objective:
Returns from NHH's funds will be used actively to support measures to achieve NHH's strategic objectives, by the awarding fundings to employees. Fundings should in principle not be used to cover expenses which by their nature should be covered by assets. Primarily fundings may be awarded to:

      1.2.1. Measures that stimulate research, especially basic research, and dissemination of research including;
      • Research or studies at renowned foreign universities
      • Participation in scientific conferences and workshops

1.2.2. Events and activities which profiles NHH in a good way
      • Professional events and activities organized by departments or employees
      • Academic events organized by students
      • Social events and activities, avialable to all, groups of employees or large groups of students. It is usually not awarded fundings to activities that gives a break even or a surplus result, nor to activities relating to ordinary operation.

Events and the like shall in principle be held on the scools's premises."

What is required to be awarded?
The application must include the purpose of the application, the costs and revenues including any deductibles (preferably in the form of an attached budget) and received grants from NHH for the same or similar objectives to be implemented in the current calendar year.

The event may not be held before the application deadline, meaning that you have to apply for fundings in advance of the event.

HSF usually only provides deficit coverage of events, so you are therefore obliged to submit a report together with accounts of the event after it is finished. This report should be submitted as soon as possible after the event is finished.

      Tips & tricks
      • Submit application well in advance, feel free to contact for example. Head of Financial Affairs of the Executive Board to review whether the application contains all it should.
      • Do not apply for support for equipment, HSF provides loss coverage to events. To apply for fundings for equipment, send an application to the Foundation for NHH in Bergen.
      • Do not apply for more than you need.
      • Be polite in your application and provide all information about the event.
      • ubmit report as soon as possible after the event, then you will get fundings faster!

      Application dealines and other deadlines
      • Application dealines 1. round: January 30
      • Application dealines 2. round: April 24
      • Application dealines 3. round: September 24

The mentors can act as counselors regarding the Student organization at NHH, the city of Bergen and the student life in general.

What student organizations can international students apply to? Where do I find information about the Welcome Week? What is KS? Who can I talk to if I wish to apply for an internship in Norway or elsewhere? We will do our best to guide you and to answer your questions in the best way possible.

All new students will be contacted by their mentor during the summer break. Even if you are not a new student you can still use this online service.

This service can also be an option if you prefer to stay anonymous. Then your email-address will stay hidden for the receiver, but you will still receive the answer to your email.
